“When it’s time, it’s time!”
Rochester, NY is where it all began. It’s the robust and picturesque city where Roger Hill was born. Known as the “Flower City” because of its abundance of floral and tree nurseries since the 1800s, it is also known as the “World’s Image Center” because of its history as the home of Eastman Kodak Company.
These facts are important to the life and music of this now Atlanta-based R&B soul singer. Because, clearly, someone with a soul was meant to produce something that would one day blossom, bloom, or rise to the occasion when it’s time.
Now, Roger Hill, who goes by the artist name ROGERHILL MUSIC, is ready—but it wasn’t an easy road to get here. The man had to travel extensively in order to earn his first Top 30 R&B hit in early 2023 with “Come Back To Me.” It was a lesson in the long journey on which he’s about to embark in recording and releasing his debut album.
Hill began singing at the young age of five, under the management of his mother. He sang in church and later joined the Ambassadors of Gospel Music. Though he was obedient, he confesses that he “never really wanted to sing… I just wanted to go out and be a kid.”
Music always surrounded him in some form or fashion. As a working man, whose life led him through college football, construction, and other opportunities, he eventually found his way back to music in Rochester, where he performed with local bands and artists. He recalls thinking that he wouldn’t make any money on stage—but with encouragement and persistence, the passion returned.
In 2011, Hill moved to Atlanta to start over—and start over he did.
Thursday nights in Atlanta took Hill to Kat’s Café, where Open Mic Nights were renowned. There, Hill caught the attention of producers and industry insiders. Soon after, he was approached by a music producer from a Black Ski Week trip in Florida, which ultimately led to the creation of his hit single “Come Back To Me.”
“Come Back To Me” was produced by accomplished guitarist Rick Marcel and uses a sample from the legendary Ron Isley. ROGERHILL MUSIC continues to work with Kool and The Gang.
Hill is busy writing music for his debut album, which includes singles like “Nobody Knows” and “I Will Love You.”
“Come Back To Me” is about someone who is seeking redemption in love. “Nobody Knows” dives deeper into vulnerability—expressing the emotional weight of love, heartbreak, and truth that others may not see.
Another single, “I Will Love You,” is a perfect summer song with smooth background vocals and a cool, laid-back vibe—ideal for cruising down the coast or through the mountains.
ROGERHILL MUSIC is about good music. Whether performing his own music or classic covers, he brings passion and authenticity to every stage. He has opened for artists such as Leela James, Jon B, Babyface, and Howard Hewett, performing in front of legends like Ron Isley.
His music continues to evolve, blending old-school soul with a modern R&B sound. His journey reflects growth, persistence, and dedication to his craft.
“Now that I’m in it, I like the idea that people like the music that I’m putting out. A lot of people ask me if I’ve always wanted to do this—and I say no. But when it’s time, it’s time.”
